Life as a Healthcare CIO:
Two very thoughtful posts over the last week from Dr. John Halamka.
One is about using SOAP to transmit a HITSP standardised (Continuity of Care Document) XML message to the Social Security Administration, so the SSA can process disability records in almost realtime.
Another one is on the way the HITSP is trying to introduce their "Certification Commission for Health Information Technology” protocol to certify vendor products.
Medgadget:
Siemans have developed the ACUSON SC2000 which can get full instantaneous images of the heart in a single heartbeat. It’s not 3-D yet, but you do get some very specialized views.
REDBOX Technology have released a beta version of Clear Sense. I just signed up for it, just waiting on an invite. Basically it tracks you Personal Health Record, and then gives you feedback and information based on your results. Sounds interesting. It also works with Google Health.
HONANA Medical has released their LifeBed hospital bed in Europe. This can track a patient’s basic vital signs (heartbeat, breathing) using the bed coverlet, and wirelessly pages a nurse if it notices anything arwy.
Forbes has a story on some great sounding startups online. I don’t know why I haven’t seen this yet… I’ve got a damn subscription. More from Forbes on healthcare tech startups here.
Wall Street Journal:
Johnson and Johnson is using YouTube and Facebook fairly innovatively with respect to ADHD and Contact Lenses. Main points for them was that it was cheaper to do this than to put ads on TV. J & J also now have a Health Channel on YouTube.
That’s enough for now. More on Thursday.
