Relocation to Boston – Top 5 ways to keep in touch with home
Thanks to Flickr - and P1r, the photographer.
1. Facebook.
Over 100 million people are on Facebook now, and it’s getting to be bigger and bigger every day. You can put up pictures of where you are living, what things you have been doing, and leave messages with people from home. It’s definitely the easiest way to see what other people are doing as well, since you get updates on what your friends are doing.
2. Skype - free calls to home, and cheap SMS to home too.
So I just got Skype credits, and it only costs me 8 cents to send messages to my family at home. That is amazing, so it’s very easy to send a quick message for happy birthdays, Christmas’, everything.
You can also video call friends and family at home for free, which is great. Make sure you have a headset which a microphone though, so that you don’t get feedback, which makes the speakers make funny noises.
3. MSN messenger – or any other instant messaging client.
You can still talk to people at home using these, depending on the time difference between you and your friends; you can easily chat to each other.
4. Emails to people at home.
Set up an email group in your email program, so you can regularly send people at home emails, once a week is always good.
5. Blogging.
Write a blog! It’s an easy way to get in touch with people, and you can also write about other things at the same time. I get a fair few people looking at this, and I get emails from people at home fairly often.
