Samuel Adams, in front of Faneuil Hall. One of the first American Patriots.
Also owned his own brewery at one stage, so they named a beer after him. Not a bad deal.
Hi All,
Well, life is just about back to normal now. Halloween is over, got back from New Orleans, and had the last weekend to rest and start to get back into action. Last weekend, got to see history made first hand as the election was called on Tuesday at around 10:30 with Barrack Obama being named as the president elect. It was pretty full on. Probably one of those things that everyone with remember where they were and what they did at that time for the rest of their lives.
Well, I certainly remember. It was crazy walking through Cambridge afterwards and hearing shouts of “Obama” as we were walking through Central Square. Then I got back to Beacon Hill, and it was completely dead. It was an odd moment. Boston is certainly a quiet town, but I didn’t expect it to be that quiet. Guess Beacon Hill is a pretty republican area. I thought the local pub was watching Fox news as a joke. Maybe not, because that place was closed at 11:30 as I was walking past.
The rest of the week was pretty wicked as well. Finished some parts of the new tool we will be getting ready for the nurses by January next year. We are basically trying to link assessments of patients to diagnosis’ and interventions that patient needs. The Transtheoretical Model of Change and the SF-36 is baked into it as well, soon it’s going to be an exciting thing to get up and running. Got to show a prototype of it to the Nurses at the quarterly staff meeting, and the first thing they said was “When is it going to be ready” which is a very good sign. Usually they are completely negative about everything.
Also, I received an award for all the work I’ve been doing. It was basically a Employee of the Quarter award sort of thing, which was awesome. It’s called the “Dovey” and it’s usually given to someone that has done something amazing in the last quarter. Also, people have to add different “joke parts” to it – this first one had a doctor’s vest on it, the second one had the face of a governor that tried (and failed) to hit on one of the staff members – and since I was Australian, guess which cultural icon was made fun of with it?
Steve Irwin.
The Dovey was holding a baby above a crocodile.
Or it would have been, if the croc didn’t fall apart as the award was given to me. Fun times.
